Two Mountaineer Defensive Players Exit Game Early with Injury

West Virginia defeated LIU 65-7 on Saturday, but two Mountaineer defenders left the game early due to injury.

Sophomore cornerback Wesley McCormick suffered an undisclosed injury late in the first half and did not return to the game. McCormick had two tackles before exiting. Freshman defensive tackle Zeiqui Lawton also left the game early with an injury. Lawton had two tackles before going down. The severity of the two injuries is not yet known, and their status for next week's game is uncertain. Despite injuries, the Mountaineers did not take long to put LIU away. West Virginia led 41-0 at the half and scored 24 more points in the second half.

West Virginia's defense had a strong performance. The Mountaineers held LIU to just 12 yards of total offense in the first half and 114 yards for the game.

The Mountaineers will return home next week to face Towson on Saturday, September 10.
