Hurricane Beryl Battering Mexico after Wreaking Havoc in Jamaica and Caribbean

Category 4 Storm Forecast to Hit Yucatán Peninsula Late Thursday

Devastating Winds and Flooding Reported in Affected Areas

Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 storm, has caused significant damage in Jamaica and the Caribbean region as it continues to barrel toward Mexico. The storm is expected to maintain its hurricane status as it approaches the Yucatán Peninsula and Belize late Thursday, bringing the threat of hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall.

In Jamaica, the storm ripped off roofs, leaving homes exposed and communities without shelter. Fishing boats were jumbled in Barbados, and widespread damage to infrastructure and agriculture has been reported. The southern coast of Jamaica was particularly hard-hit, with flash flooding causing significant disruptions and damage.

As Beryl moves towards Mexico, the National Hurricane Center has issued warnings for the Yucatán Peninsula and Belize. Residents in these areas have been urged to take precautions and prepare for the potential impact of the storm. The hurricane is expected to weaken as it crosses the peninsula, but heavy rainfall and flooding are still likely.

In addition to Jamaica and the Caribbean, Beryl has also caused damage in Venezuela. Devastating floods swept through a town after the hurricane passed off the Venezuelan coast, leaving damaged vehicles and disrupted communities. The full extent of the damage in Venezuela is still being assessed.
