WEB Fight summary of UFC 289

Aldana from Rogers Arena in Vancouver on June 10 2023 on ESPN

Amanda Nunes retires brilliantly as double champ Charles Oliveira reminds us of his excellence - ESPN.

The best female fighter of all time officially left the octagon Saturday night, closing the curtains on a remarkable career inside the UFC. Amanda Nunes, 34, was the first-ever two-division champ and the only fighter to hold two belts simultaneously in the history of the promotion. She capped off her legendary run with a dominant decision win over Irene Aldana in the UFC 289 main event. Nunes’ retirement was one of the biggest stories of the weekend, but Charles Oliveira’s performance in the co-main event wasn’t too shabby either.

After losing his lightweight belt to Islam Makhachev last October, Oliveira was in must-win territory on Saturday night. And he delivered in a big way, submitting Tony Ferguson with a first-round armbar. The win was a reminder of just how good Oliveira is, and it has him back in the mix for a title shot. Other notable results from UFC 289:

* Bo Nickal defeated Jamie Pickett by submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round * Johnny Eblen defeated Kevin Holland by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) * Raufeon Stots defeated Daniel Oliveira by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
